Somtimes it’s Best to Fold the Best Hand

When you play poker tournaments you are looking for an edge. You are looking for a weakness in your opponents that you can take advantage of. You win pot after pot and begin to gain some traction and then the situation arrives where you have to make a decision for all of your chips holding the best hand. However, there are huge draws on the board for a flush and/or straight draw. What do you do now? How do you handle the situation? There is the obvious answer and that is to get your chips in the middle and hope for the best. However, there is another situation where you know you know you can fold the hand without losing much chip utility and wait for a better spot. These are the kinds of situations that can make or break you. The fact of the matter is that there are rare occasions that you can fold the best hand knowing your opponent is on a draw because you KNOW you can get a better spot later to take their chips.
I am not suggesting that this play is for everyone.I am simply suggesting that it is an option a very confident player has available to them. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.
