Single Table Domination

Single table poker tournaments are tournaments that can be dominated for stretches of time. How do I know? Because every now and then I get on a run when playing them and it is oh so sweet! True, in any poker tournament the cards have to co-operate with you on your journey. But when you are running good there is almost nothing anyone can do to stop you and in a single table tournament variance has a lower percentage of putting the brakes on your run.

We all know there is no use to play for less than the top three spots. There is no money in any of those spots and therefore they are useless. At the same time there is no reason to fly off the hand making plays you don’t have to make. If you plan on dominating single tables then you plan on being patient. You have to allow the bad players to give your their chips instead of trying to take them like you may be accustomed too in deep stacks tournaments. Yes, patience is a virtue worth cultivating in a single table.

As the tournament moves forward and three players are eliminated you still should have picked up enough chips not be in all-in mode. This is where you put it into overdrive and begin to push the envelope and start stealing blinds and building your stack for the run to the top. Your short handed play has got to be strong in single tables. Once you get down to the final four players all of the bad ones are pretty much gone by then. The object from here is to get heads-up to play for the prize. A good single table player will be in the money more than fifty percent of the time when the deck is breaking even.

Give single tables a shot and you will be glad you did!
