You’ve been playing online poker for a while, and now you’ve decided to try your hand at live poker tournaments.  Do you have a chance at success?  Well, the good news is that you do.  The basic skills that you have acquired from online poker games will benefit you in the live poker tournament scene.  There are some differences, however.

The pace of play at live poker tournaments can be a little slower than online games.  This gives you more time to think, more time to read real life tells, and also more time to be read.  If you’re poor at hiding tells, then this could be a big disadvantage for you.  If all of your experience so far comes from online poker, you may not even realise if you are unconciously sending tells while playing.

Bluffing and psychology are an important part of live poker.  There isn’t as much bluffing going on as the movies would have you believe, but an understanding of psychology and pot odds will stand you in good stead when you go to play in live poker tournaments.
