Be Honest about your Poker Ability

Many online poker players seem to believe that because they play a lot of hands that it somehow translates into being good at the game. While it does indeed help you to refine your poker game it does not necessarily make you a juggernaut of a poker player. Over and over again I hear online poker players say that they have played over a million hands and that even the most experienced live poker players no longer have an edge on them because of it.
Don’t believe the hype!
I am not saying that online poker players are better than live ones anymore than I am suggesting the opposite. What I am suggesting is that they are two entirely different entities with similar but not the same skill sets necessary to be successful. You can play an infinite amount of hand online and still be a very marginal live cash game player simply because of the lack of reading ability and intuition that those that play live have developed through years of practice.
Conversely, a player that realize strictly on “feel” playing live cash games may be at a disadvantage in an online poker environment to some degree. It would depend on how much that player was into the math of the game as that is the dominant decision making factor with most online poker players.
I suppose this particular argument will never really be resolved amicably as long as one group believes they have the edge over the other. But it sure is fun to talk about.
