The Championship event of the World Series of Poker Europe is now taking place in Cannes, France. Players from all over the world have flocked to the event, which is the final event on the WSOP schedule.

The event is being held at the Hotel Majestic Barriere. There were 215 players signed up for the event, with big names such as Vanessa Selbst, John Monnette, Oliver Speidel, and Erick Cajelais signing up to join in the action.

The chip leader at the end of Day 1A is Mike Mizrachi. He earned his lead by playing impressively throughout the entire day. He crushed his opposition throughout the final level of the day, knocking out Selbst, and netting a dominant lead over the opposition. At one point in play, he reached 295K chips. His lead was erroded slightly when Tom Bedell took a large hand towards the end of the night, but he still finished the day on 234,500 chips – a good way ahead of second placed JC Alvarado, who holds 180,675 in chips.

Day 1B is currently underweay, and it’s expected that there will be more than 500 players signed up for the event in total. It’s unlikely that signups will top last year’s figures (which set a record attendance of 593), but there’ll still be a nice pool of opposition.

Keep checking back for more updates as the tournament continues.
