The world’s poker elite have made their way to Macau, China to take part in the $250 buy-in turbo tournament, the “Macau High Stakes Challenge”. The challenge is being held at the Starworld Casino’s Poker King Club. Play will begin tomorrow, and the field is capped at 80 players, to create a prize pool of $20 million.

Each player will be allowed one rebuy, and if half of the players opt to buy back in, then the top prize could increase from $5 million to about $7.5 million.

The Macau High Stakes Challenge is a one-day event that was designed as a result of a collaboration between several poker companies, including the Asian poker Tour, the poker King Club, PokerAce, Nepture, and Tom Hall, the chairman of AsianLogic.

It’s expected that the field of players will include a lot of Asian businessmen in addition to the usual list of Western poker pros, and some Asian poker pros too. Well-known names taking part in the tournament include Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan, Brian Rast, Erik Seidel, and Joe Hachem.

The tournament will be recorded and shortly after play is completed it will be broadcast as a series of short episodes made for the web, so if you want to see how the high rollers play, this is a good opportunity.
