Competition is fierce between the two famous Phils at the world series of poker, and now that one of them has a bracelet, things are hotting up even more. Unfortunately for Phil Ivey, the other Phil has managed to broaden his bracelet gap, and Ivey is now no longer in contention in event #24. He did manage to put in a good showing, and made it deep into the money, getting all the way to the final table and third place. He entered day 3 of the event as the chip leader, but he was pushed out of the final four when Mike Matusow made a spectacular recovery, both in terms of his chip stack and his personal health. Matusow was struck by a bout of food poisoning on day 2, but recovered to make it to the money. Ivey made it to third place, but was eliminated, leaving Joe Cassidy in heads-up play versus Scotty Nguyen after 13 long and difficult hours of play.
Play was suspended after Nguyen and Cassidy were unable to agree to continue. The event will resume on Thursday at 14.00 Local Time, with Cassidy starting the new play session with a 3.5 to 1 chip advantage over Nguyen. Keep checking back for updates in the event as the news comes in.
