Professional poker player Joe Tehan currently enjoys a sizeable chip lead in the $5,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Mixed Max Event #6 at the 2012 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Tehan is, himself, from Las Vegas, so he hasn’t had to travel far to take part in the tournament.
Tehan currently holds 219,200 chips, almost 33% more than second placed Aaron Jones of Indianapolis. In third place, just behind Jones, is Marvin Rettenmaier from Germany, who is representing Team PartyPoker.
The event attracted 409 entrants, and has a prize pool of $1,922,300. The winner of the tournament will get an impressive first placed prize of $480,564 – not to mention one of the lovely new celebrity-jeweler designed bracelets. The tournament will run for four days, with each day involving a different kind of No-Limit Hold’em. Day one featured standard nine-handed play, and day two will involve Six-Max No-Limit Hold’em. During day three the format will be Heads-up No-Limit Hold’em.
There are just 112 players remaining in the tournament now. Perhaps the most noteable elimination was Phil Ivey, who has returned to the World Series of Poker after a year away. However, his frustrations at busting out will be mitigated somewhat, as his rival Phil Hellmuth was also sent to the rail early, so neither of the two Phils is anywhere nearer to earning a bracelet, yet!
