Phil Ivey is closing in on his ninth World Series of Poker bracelet after having made it to the final table of the $2,500 Buy-in Mixed Hold’em game, Event #35. This achievement was made all the more impressive by the fact that he started the event late, because he was busy competing in a different event, which he also made it to the final table of. Ivey busted out of that eve,t the $10,000 HORSE event, in fifth place, walking away with $99,793 for his efforts.

Whether or not he will earn a bracelet in this event remains to be seen, he’s starting at a serious chip disadvantage, but he’s certainly motivated enough to take a serious shot at lasting the day and catching up with the chip leader, Joep van den Bijgaart. If he does net himself this bracelet, he’ll also walk away with $210, 107, but with a record like Ivey’s the money probably won’t be as sweet as the bracelet, and the chance to close the gap on Phil Hellmuth’s record total.

Ivey is currently in seventh place in the chip counts for Event #35, just barely ahead of fellow USA players Brent Wheeler and Michael Foti. Keep checking back for tournament updates as the news breaks.
