Has US Poker Bill Been Delayed?

Has the US poker bill been delayed?  At least one analyst seems to think so. Last week, a Wall Street gaming analyst told investors that he strongly believed that  debate over federal legislation that would legalize Internet poker has been pushed back to 2013 after lawmakers didn’t attach an online gaming bill to the payroll tax cut extension.  This is quite a blow to poker fans, and to online poker companies that have been scrambling to get sites together in preparation for the expected bill.

“Nevada’s Gaming Control Board continues to methodically roll out legalized intrastate gaming and we believe their regulatory board has a great handle on what’s to come,” Beynon said. ”We think the standards were written in a way that will allow for small adjustments as the process moves forward,” he went on to tell investors. “At this point, no firm date has been set, but 13 companies have now submitted for an operating license.”

The bill is expected to be passed at some point in the near future, and a range of companies – from social media companies such as Zynga, to bricks-and mortar casinos, are all preparing for the change in the law.

However, it seems it will be a while before our American friends can play online.
