The final table of the Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament is upon us. Day 3 saw Phil Hellmuth lead the table for most of the day, although he was eventually overtaken by Andy Seth, and finished the day in second place in the chip count.
Play lasted for all of Thursday and continued until well into the early hours of friday. Seth won 16 out of the 44 hands played on the TV-table bubble, including an important hand where Seth knocked out Lon Diamond in seventh place. Seth actually knocked out Scotty Nguyen in eigth place, and Brian Rast in ninth, and collected three Shooting Star bounties in the event too. The last remaining shooting star is Hellmuth, and Seth has his sights set firmly on Hellmuth for the final day.
Seth said “I’m going to keep trying to do what I’ve been doing. Stay in control of the table, play pots when I can, and play good, solid poker. I just hope to run well.”
Hellmuth says that he’s had a read on seth for the past two days, and that “If I can have a read on hom tomorrow, I’ll have a chance to win.” So far, Hellmuth has never been in the winner’s circle at a World Poker Tour tournament. Hellmuth says that “It would mean a lot. I really want to win. That’s what I do. I’ve been working really hard at my game.”
Stay tuned for updates on the tournament as it goes on.
