Failla Wins WPT: Legends of Poker Main Event
Will Failla, one of the most interesting personalities in the poker tournament scene, has finally earned his first major title with a first place finish at the World Poker Tour’s Legends of Poker main event. Failla entered the final table of the $3,500 re-entry event as the chip leader, and did not let his lack of final table experience get the better of him.
The event was a big success, featuring 757 entries and offering a prize pool of $2.5 million. Failla’s share was $758,085 – the biggest prize of his career, and enough to boost his 2011 tournament earnings to personal best levels, almost doubling the amount won in his previous “best” year, 2006. So far, Failla has earned $1.2 million in 2011 with 14 cashes, five at the 2011 WSOP, and two tournament wins.
There was a point in the six handed final table where Failla looked to be losing it, sat in fourth place with a far smaller stack than the leading three players, but he held it together and was eventually able to whittle down his opponents to take this much deserved win.
In total, eighty players finished in the money at the World Poker Tour: Legends of Poker Main Event 2011. The top ten were:
