Know the average chip count

Overall this year has been a great year for me as a poker player. I have played several live poker tournaments and cashed as well as continuing to do well online. I know we all love to read books or watch video to learn different approaches and poker strategy to play this game. However, the one constant in my style of play that has remained since I started playing tournament poker is knowing what the chip average is. That is an extremely important barometer for me because it gives me a very good picture of where I am in relation to the entire field of players.
Along with the blinds and antes I can get a very good gauge on whether I need to speed up my play and take more risks or not. That is a huge advantage over those that don’t bother to calculate the average. Take the time to find out how many players are left in the poker tournament and divide that number into the number of chips remaining in play. It is as simple as that. Doing a little calculation every hour or so will benefit your tournament poker game greatly.
